Mapping Almere: local knowledge to build upon

The Social Context Map of De Wierden in Almere is a digital tool that makes socio-spatial research on location easily and quickly accessible. The map integrates quantitative and qualitative data in existing GIS. A combining of layers creates a graphic, interactive map with ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ data on a particular area and its users; from lifestyles, average income and census information to small scale cultural activities and local collaborative efforts. Local knowledge to build upon!

On a commission by housing corporation Ymere, Placemakers researched the local qualities, knowledge and user experience of De Wierden, a new neighborhood in Almere. Based on desk research and field work, the Social Context Map of De Wierden allowed the client to gain new insights and served as a prompt for important discussions on policy goals and evaluation.

Goals:

Provides a clear overview of various research data
Functions as a local policy evaluation tool
Helps to designate key development goals
Stimulates discussion among various stakeholders
